Permanent Exhibition with photographs by Abraham Pisarek
Memories of the former Jewish children's home in Fehrbelliner Straße 92
With a permanent exhibition we would like to preserve the memories of the everyday life of the children who lived here, and at the same time remember the Jewish life in our district. Our house became the setting for the violence of Nazism.
Most of the photos in the exhibition were taken by Abraham Pisarek (1901-1983). He was a well-known Jewish theatre photographer and was banned from working during Nazism. Thus, it came about that his photographic work during this time was concentrated on Jewish life. In short accompanying audio recordings, we recount the story of the former Jewish children's home - as survivors told us (so far only in German). They tell us that our house was a place of secureness and care in terrible times.
Those interested are cordially invited to visit us in the community centre at Fehrbelliner Straße 92 and to visit the exhibition on the first floor.
Stories about the Jewish Children's Home
Over the past twenty years, we have collected stories and memories from contemporary witnesses of the Jewish Children's Home. We would like to share these stories in short audio contributions (only available in German).
Special thanks go to: Ruth Gross, who made the photo archive of her father Abraham Pisarek available to us, and Inge Franken († 2012), who played a decisive role in advancing research into the history of our house. Above all, we would like to thank the contemporary witnesses who came to us and shared their stories and fates with us.
