Prenzlauer Berg has developed into an international district where expats from all over the world live, work, and connect. Especially English-speaking people find Berlin easy to navigate. Most Berlin residents also speak English, as do the sports offerings, meetups, and coworking spaces. Yet even though the city has so much to offer, we expats are repeatedly told what is missing: short-term fun events rarely lead to long-term relationships; after the yoga class you never see each other again; and acquaintances with colleagues remain superficial. Moreover: not everyone can (or wants to) base their social life on monthly subscriptions, entry fees, and drinks bills.
For this reason, so-called “third places” are especially important for expats: in libraries, neighborhood centers, and public meeting points you regularly meet familiar faces, spontaneous conversations arise, and contacts can grow organically. In our neighborhood center, we want to be such a place for expats, too and especially for them. We support expats with free or affordable offerings and with spaces that are open, inclusive, and permanently usable—real community that lasts. Our program includes regular events that take place explicitly in English or are particularly English-friendly:
Language Café for german learning – Every tuesday 4 PM – 6 PM
Walk & Talk – Get to know your local community! – Every tuesday 6 – 7:30 PM
Focus hour for your project – Every 1st and 3rd sunday 10 – 12 AM
Feminist book club – every 4th sunday 4 – 7 PM
Art Social Club – Every last saturday 7 – 9:30 PM
And beyond that, you can also participate at almost all events even with English skills, especially if you bring a bit of humor and patience with you 😉
You canf din all of these dates on our program website as well as in our flyer – right here.
